1. in 1956,an act was passed to recognise Sinhala only official language disregarding Tamil.
2. the governments followed preferential policies that favoured Sinhala applicants for university positions and government jobs.
3. the Government of Sri Lanka did not give equal rights to other religion.

the sinhala community was in majority ajlnd Indian Tamils are minority and majority community (sinhala) want the govt. occupation or every type of govt. services in favour of them .. so because of this there conflicts between sinhala and Tamils .. and this conflict will become havoc and turned in to the civil war..
so by this sro Lanka failed to accommodate its social diversity..
