given tanA-cotA=4

squaring on both sides, we get

=>tan²A+cot²A-2tanAcotA=16

=>tan²A+cot²A-2=16

=>tan²A+cot²A=18--------(1)

now, let tanA+cotA=x

squaring on both sides, we get

=>tan²A+cot²A+2tanAcotA=x²

by (1)

=>18+2=x²

=>x=±√20

so tanA+cotA=±√20
