Process of producing syn gas or synthesis gas from coal is known as 'coal gasification'.
C(s) + H2O(g)--->[CO(g) + H2(g)] this is known as syn gas.
The production of Hydrogen can be increased by reacting carbon monoxide of syn gas with steam in the presence of iron chromate ( FeCrO4) as catalyst at 673K.
e.g., CO(g) + H2O(g)---FeCrO4,673K---->CO2(g)+H2(g)
We can remove CO2 by scrubbing wit a solution of sodium arsenite.
