The Vellore mutiny broke out in the year 1806.
On 10 July 1806, a mutiny broke out against the British East India Company. It was as a result of dress code introduced for the Indian sepoys, where Hindu sepoys were not allowed to wear any religious marks on their foreheads and Muslims were asked to shave off their beards. Mutineers - mostly Indian sepoys, stormed the Vellore Fort in South India and killed close to 200 British troops stationed there.
However, the mutiny was subdued immediately and about 100 mutineers were executed without trial.
