Two sources of sound S₁ and S₂ produce sound waves of same frequency 660 Hz. A listener is moving from source S₁ towards S₂ with a constant speed u m/s and he hears 10 beats/s. The velocity of sound is 330 m/s. Then, u equals:
(A) 15.0 m/s (B) 10.0 m/s
(C) 5.5 m/s (D) 2.5 m/s

The value of u equals 2.5m/s

n=660hz( given value of frequency )

1.v=330m/s( given value for speed of light )

u=?

Δn=10( no of beats per second)

2.n'=n(v-u/v±(0))( formula to calculate apparrent frequency)

n"=n(v+u/v±(0))

Δn=n(v+u/v)-n(v-u/v)(delta n = n"-n')

=n(2u/v)

n(2u/v)=10

therefore substituting values from given we get

3.u=10(330/2*660)=2.5m/s
