Wind is caused by differences in theatmospheric pressure. When a difference in atmospheric pressure exists, air moves from the higher to the lower pressure area, resulting in winds of various speeds.

The movement of air from one region to other and the uneven heating of different regions of earth creates winds. On heating, the air rises up and a region of low pressure gets created. The air from the region of high pressure moves into this area of low pressure. This movement causes winds. Winds are also caused by rotation of earth and presence of mountains in the path of winds.
