Inflammation means a localized physical condition in which part of the body becomes reddened, swollen, hot, and often painful, especially as a reaction to injury or infection.

Answer: Inflammation literally means any type of swelling, redness, itching and burning sensation. It is the process when body's immune system detects an antigen and become ready and fight against them by using five different types of WBC's.

The effects of inflammation can be both local and systemic or general. Local effects may be redness, swelling, pain, increase in temperature of affected area etc. Systemic or general inflammation may be fever, leukocytosis and vascular changes.
