Movement of individual parts of plants is possible when they are subjected to external stimuli.This type of response is called tropic movement or tropism.There are 5 types of tropisms.They are :
1. Photo tropism
2. Geotropism
3. Hydrotropism
4. Thigmotropism and
5. Chemotropism.

  • Tropic movements are directional movements which are either towards the stimuli or away from it.

i) Phototropism : Movement is in response to light : stem positive . root negative.

ii) Geotropism   : Movement is in response to gravity : stem negative , root positive.

iii) Hydrotropism  :  Movement is in response to water : stem negative , root positive.

iv) Chemotropism  : Growth of pollen tubes towards ovules.
