The effect of the spread of the print culture in India in the 19th century:
1. Very cheap small books were brought to market in the 19th century.
2. Public libraries were set upto give easy access to books.
3. Cotton mill workers set up libraries to educate themselves.
4.Local protest movements and sects crticised ancient scriptures.
5. Workers in factories wrote and published to show links between caste and clas exploitation.
6. The print culture made the women important, as readers as well as writers. Women's reading increased enormously in middle class homes.
7. Liberal fathers and husbands began educating women folk at home and send them to schools. Women's schools were set up.
