x/5 = y/8 find x+5:y+8

Hi ,

x/5 = y/8

x= 5y/8 --( 1 )

( x + 5 )/( y + 8 )

= ( 5y/8 + 5 ) / ( y + 8 )

= [ 5 ( y/8 + 1 ) ]/ ( y + 8 )

= [ 5/8 ( y + 8 ) ]/ ( y + 8 )

= 5/8

= 5 : 8
