You have been provided with three test tubes. One of them contains
distilled water and the other two contain an acidic solution and a basic
solution, respectively. If you are given only red litmus paper, how will
you identify the contents of each test tube?

Answer:

Red litmus will show no color change in acidic solution.

Red litmus will turn blue in basic solution

In distilled water it will turn purple.

  • the basic solution turns blue in colour the neutral and acid solution remain unchanged
  • then we can consider as basic solution
  • the blue litmus paper will turn red then that solution is acidic
  • the solution remained unchanged is neutral one
